How to increase a PDF file size
- 1Choose your PDF — drop it on the box or tap to browse. The tool reads its current size right in your browser.
- 2Pick a target size. Tap a preset such as 100 KB, 200 KB, 500 KB or 1 MB, or type the exact number your portal asks for and switch between KB and MB. Decimals like 1.5 MB work too.
- 3Increase the size. The file is padded to your target in a couple of seconds.
- 4Download. Your pages look identical — only the file size changed — and nothing was uploaded.
Why increase a PDF file size
- ✓Pass a portal that rejects files below a minimum size (common on job, exam, admission, visa and government forms).
- ✓Your pages, text, images and fonts are untouched — only invisible padding is added, so there is no loss of quality.
- ✓Set an exact target in KB or MB, with fractional values supported.
- ✓Fully private: the whole thing runs in your browser and your PDF is never uploaded.
Frequently asked questions
Why do upload portals reject small PDFs?
Many portals set a minimum file size to screen out blank pages, broken uploads, and scans too low-quality to read. The check only counts bytes — it does not look at the content — so a crisp, text-based PDF made on a computer can be far smaller than a photo scan and get rejected even though it is perfectly readable. Padding the file up lets a good document clear a simple size rule.
Does increasing the size change how my PDF looks?
No. The pages, text, images, fonts, and formatting are left exactly as they are. The tool only appends extra data in a part of the file that PDF readers do not display, so page 1 looks identical before and after and the page count is unchanged.
Can I set an exact target size in KB or MB?
Yes. Pick a preset or type any number and switch the unit between KB and MB. Decimal values such as 1.5 MB are supported, so you can match whatever figure the upload instructions show.
Will the padded PDF still open everywhere?
Yes. The padding uses a standard, ignorable part of the PDF format, so the file stays valid and opens normally in Adobe Acrobat, Chrome, Edge, Preview, and mobile PDF apps.
My portal counts KB differently — will the file still pass?
Some systems treat 1 KB as 1,000 bytes and others as 1,024 bytes, so the same file can read as 100 KB on one and 98 KB on another. The tool aims a little above your target so the result comfortably clears the minimum however the portal counts.
Is my file uploaded anywhere?
No. Everything happens locally in your browser on your own device — your PDF is never sent to us or anyone else. That matters for sensitive documents like ID scans, transcripts, bank statements, or signed forms.
What if my PDF is already larger than the target?
This tool only pads files up; it never shrinks them. If your file already meets or exceeds the size you picked, it is returned unchanged. To make a PDF smaller, use the Compress PDF tool instead.
